Sidel has supplied Britannia Industries Limited with its first-ever aseptic PET packaging line for the Winkin’ Cow business, marking a significant milestone in the food company’s dairy drinks expansion. Britannia Industries Limited, one of India’s leading food companies, chose Sidel to install the aseptic PET solution as part of a broader effort to strengthen its dairy beverages portfolio under the Winkin’ Cow brand.
Britannia entered the dairy drinks segment in 2018 with value-added offerings marketed through Winkin’ Cow. As part of its long-term strategy, the company partnered with Sidel, recognised globally for packaging innovation and backed by five decades of expertise in aseptic PET packaging. The collaboration focused on delivering a complete aseptic PET packaging solution at Britannia’s greenfield dairy factory in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra, India.
“Sidel offered Britannia end-to-end support, enabling them to unlock the full potential of their dairy beverage,” comments Harbinder Kathuria, Vice President, Sales, South Asia. “From bottle and label design to product-packaging validation, the line has empowered Britannia to expand its dairy beverage portfolio and offer safe, high-quality products with enhanced packaging flexibility to Indian consumers since 2023.”
Throughout the project, Sidel acted as technology and solutions partner, working alongside Britannia at every stage. The scope ranged from early-stage line design and technical planning to installation, commissioning and final ramp-up. The close coordination between the two companies ensured the project remained aligned with operational requirements and delivery timelines.
“The support from Sidel wasn’t limited to the line equipment; it went much further,” explains Abhishek Sinha, Chief Sales Transformation Officer, Britannia (formerly CBO – Dairy & CEO, BBFPL) “Sidel offered a comprehensive range of services, including new packaging concept design, packaging validation, label recommendations, custom filling tests and shelf-life studies. They provided everything we needed to enter the aseptic PET segment and bring our new product to market with maximum confidence.”
At the Ranjangaon facility, Sidel installed a complete line incorporating the Aseptic Combi Predis system. Operating at 24,000 bph, the integrated solution combines preform sterilisation, blow moulding, filling and capping into a single process designed to safeguard product integrity and extend shelf life for sensitive dairy beverages.
Described as the market’s simplest and fastest aseptic solution, Aseptic Combi Predis features Predis™ dry preform decontamination. The Predis™ technology injects Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into the preform immediately before it enters the oven. Activation of H2O2 takes place during the standard preform heating stage, achieving a high level of decontamination while reducing the size of the sterile zone and controlling potential contamination risks. Critical parameters are continuously monitored to maintain full production sterility, beverage integrity and food safety, regardless of liquid type or beverage characteristics.
Designed for operational simplicity, Sidel’s Aseptic Combi Predis allows operators to manage the sterilisation process without extensive training requirements or prolonged downtime. The system also offers flexibility, enabling format changes across three dairy drink sizes – from 180ml to 1L – while sustaining high efficiency levels.
The use of dry preform decontamination means no water and almost no chemicals are required during the process. As a result, water and chemical consumption are significantly reduced, supporting Britannia in achieving total food safety with fewer resources and a lower environmental impact.
In addition, Aseptic Combi Predis is engineered to deliver the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) while maintaining food safety and production simplicity. The system supports high uptime and packaging versatility across multiple SKUs, aligning with Britannia’s operational and portfolio expansion objectives.
