Mainetti has officially introduced its M-Film flexible packaging range for retail and apparel customers. The newly launched portfolio forms a central part of the company’s initiatives addressing circular economy goals and environmental issues across the global retail supply chain. Offering diverse packaging formats, the line-up incorporates both recyclable plastic and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper-based options. Mainetti currently provides packaging products and related services to global brands, including Amazon, Gap, Columbia Sportswear, and Lululemon.
Material Alternatives and Technical Characteristics
The M-Film flexible packaging range includes nine distinct material alternatives engineered to satisfy varied operational requirements. Among the selections, M-FILM Bio-Based utilizes renewable biomass, such as sugarcane, and is manufactured with bio-based polyethylene (PE) to reduce reliance on conventional fossil-based plastic. Mainetti stated that this bio-based film delivers the identical performance of standard PE and is carbon-negative across its complete lifecycle.
In addition, M-FILM Pulp is produced from FSC-certified wood pulp to serve as a non-fossil fuel-based alternative. According to the company, this compostable material is designed for retail applications, offering lightweight, heat-sealable, anti-static, and print-ready qualities while functioning as a reliable barrier against oxygen, moisture, and aroma. For dissolvable applications, M-FILM Dissolve provides a water-soluble film made from polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) that resists puncturing and tearing, dissolves completely in water or composting systems, and leaves no microplastics behind. Completing the sustainable options, M-FILM Recycled is a low-density polyethylene (LDPE) film made from up to 100% recycled polymer, serving as an alternative to virgin plastic while maintaining high transparency comparable with non-recycled material.
Global Production Network and Strategic Expansion
Manufacturing of the new line takes place across 14 Mainetti facilities worldwide. Commenting on the launch, Mainetti chief product and commercial officer Jeffrey Hsu said:
“Sustainability means something different to every retailer and brand we work with. For some, it means moving away from fossil-based materials entirely or adopting more compostable solutions. For others, it’s about partnering with a packaging provider that can scale their offering to meet their ambitions. With M-Film, we’ve built a portfolio flexible enough to meet brands wherever their sustainability priorities sit.”
The roll-out expands Mainetti’s ongoing flexible packaging operations. Earlier this year, the company broadened its paper hanging solutions following direct investments in manufacturing capacity across Asia.
