Planet Group has strengthened its position in digital corrugated production with the installation of a Domino X630i digital corrugated press at its Hughes Decorr facility in Concord, Ontario. The Canadian provider of corrugated packaging and point-of-purchase solutions said the investment enhances its ability to deliver high-quality, full-colour digital corrugated packaging with improved speed and operational flexibility.

The new press expands Planet Group’s production capabilities, enabling the business to support brands from early-stage concept development through to final production. By integrating the Domino X630i into its operations, Hughes Decorr can now print directly onto corrugated substrates with minimal setup requirements, reducing preparation time while maintaining output quality.

“The Domino X630i gives us the ability to offer high-quality, full-colour digital printing directly on corrugated with minimal setup time,” says Stephen Longmire, VP of Sales, Hughes Decorr. “It allows us to help customers move faster, reduce inventory, and maintain strong brand consistency across programmes.”

According to the company, the decision to expand into digital printing reflects evolving customer requirements. Demand has shifted toward shorter production runs and increased versioning, including pilot programmes, limited releases, and retailer-specific designs. Under conventional printing methods, these applications often proved cost-prohibitive. Digital corrugated printing provides a more adaptable alternative for such use cases.

Planet GroupPlanet Group selected the Domino X630i based on its fast-drying aqueous ink technology, overall system robustness, and the technical support offered by Domino. The press enables packaging production without the time and expense associated with printing plates, while ensuring consistent colour reproduction across repeat jobs. Reduced make-ready times further support rapid prototyping, efficient short runs, and quick turnaround of repeat orders, all within a relatively compact footprint.

“For us, the Domino Difference is the combination of a robust technical platform with a genuine partnership approach,” says Mike Bannerman, General Manager, Hughes Decorr. “It’s not just about the hardware – it’s about collaboration, optimisation, and long-term success.”

Domino also highlighted the strategic alignment behind the installation. “We are pleased to support Planet Group as they expand their digital corrugated printing capabilities with the Domino X630i. Their focus on agility, speed-to-market, and high-impact retail solutions fits well with what the X630i was designed to deliver,” said Mike Barry, DP Commercial Director North America, Domino. “This installation demonstrates how brands and converters can reach new levels of flexibility in corrugated printing – whether for prototyping or full-scale production.”

With the Domino X630i now operational in Concord, Planet Group is positioned to respond more effectively to changing brand requirements across digital corrugated packaging programmes.
