Lecta, which is the Spanish producer of speciality papers when it comes to labels and flexible packaging, has launched Metalvac Ice Cream, which is a recyclable metallised paper that is developed for flexible packaging in the ice cream as well as frozen food segment.
The material goes on to extend Metalvac portfolio of the company and is intended as an alternative to the conventional laminate structures which are used for wrapping ice cream cones as well as comparable products.
Apparently, it gets supplied in a 123-gsm grade and is designed in order to run on standard industrial packing lines.
The company has confirmed that the paper provides a water vapour barrier in order to help maintain the wafer cone quality when in direct contact with packaging all across the supply chain.
It goes ahead and supports offset, flexographic as well as rotogravure printing on the metallised surface and is also engineered for consistent performance as far as industrial usage is concerned.
Metalvac Ice Cream can get recycled by way of paper and cardboard collection streams in sync with CEPI recyclability benchmarks.
As per Lecta, the product is in complete sync with circular economy principles and is also suitable for a range of flexible packaging uses.
The broader Metalvac range goes on to include paper grades offering heat-sealability along with barriers to light, water vapour, oxygen as well as aroma, in addition to resistance to moisture and also grease, sans the addition of PFAS.
The metallised papers make use of an aluminium layer of 0.08 gsm so as to balance barrier properties along with recyclability.
As per Lecta, the Metalvac range, which includes Metalvac Ice Cream, is produced in line with Good Manufacturing Practices – GMP and food safety yardstick.
It also goes onto comply with ISO 14001 and EMAS in terms of environmental management, ISO 50001 when it comes to energy management, ISO 9001 for quality management, and ISO 45001 pertaining to occupational health and safety.
Notably, in November 2025, Lecta went on to receive the flustix – Less Plastics Product certification due to its EraCup Natural board, which is a material that is used in food service packaging.
