A global leader in developing as well as manufacturing responsible packaging solutions, Amcor has gone ahead and produced a skincare stick applicator for Decathlon, the sports brand, through making use of recycled plastic, which is sourced from the proprietary CleanStream® technology of Amcor.

The option to select the 25 ml stick from Amcor goes on to reflect the commitment of Decathlon to reduce carbon footprint. With 87% rPP, every applicator rolls out a 17% lesser CO2 impact as compared to virgin resin. Since the stick applicators happen to be mono-material, they are recycle-ready too and can be recycled when the right infrastructure is in place.

According to the product & pack engineer in Health & Sports Accessories at Decathlon, Laurent Dujardin, customers look out for a quality product that they can easily make use of on the move, and hence this stick format is perfect. He added that they challenged themselves to also offer a more sustainable alternative that would still go ahead and deliver the required high performance.

It is worth noting that as a brand, Decathlon to reduce carbon footprint comes as a commitment to decrease absolute Scope 1 and 2 as well as Scope 3 GHG emissions by almost 42% by the decade’s end as compared to the base year of 2021. The use of CleanStream goes on to sync with this objective. Notably, the proprietary technology goes on to mechanically recycle the household polypropylene – PP waste into high-quality recycled plastic, which is suitable when it comes to contact-sensitive applications by way of using automated identification, sorting, and decontamination in order to attain the required polymer quality.

Interestingly, the format is being used by Decathlon for two of its products, which are an anti-chafing stick as well as a sunscreen stick.

As a matter of fact, the anti-chafing stick was designed by a team comprising athletes. The main consideration was for the product to be as easy as possible to apply without the user dirtying their hands and also for the pack to be small as well as easy to carry.

This same logic goes on to apply to the SPF50+ sunscreen stick as well, which is water as well as sweat-resistant in order to suit sportspeople.
The stick by Amcor goes on to offer a broad surface area, which helps the consumer to rapidly as well as efficiently apply the contents of the product while being small enough in terms of easy transport.

Sales director of France at Amcor, Marine Sueur, says that the ability to include rPP by way of their proprietary CleanStream technology goes on to mean that they can offer brands such as Decathlon the right combination of convenience, performance, and environmental responsibility.
