Berry Global has launched its Reusable Tableware Range to help meet the foodservice industry’s demand for more sustainable packaging solutions.

This initiative is in response to mounting legislative and customer pressures throughout the sector to transform its packaging practices. For example, the Anti-Waste Law for Circular Economy law (AGEC) in France, mandates that restaurants and other establishments with seating for more than 20 guests must offer reusable tableware.

“We are committed to helping our customers meet the growing sustainability demands of today and tomorrow by designing and developing innovative, reusable plastic products like this game-changing reusable tableware product family that helps accelerate the shift to a truly circular economy,” said Josef Björck, VP of Food Service, Berry Superfos. “Our new reusable tableware range will help minimise waste and reduce the use of virgin resources while offering functionality, durability, and legislative compliance.”

The new range of bowls and lids has been designed to meet the diverse needs of the foodservice industry while prioritising easy reuse and convenience. Transparent lids allow attractive displays of all types of foods, from full meals and fresh salads to delicious snacks and desserts. The availability of In-mould labelling enables both bowls and lids to be used for branding and decorated with the visual identity of individual food providers.

The bowls and lids also support efficient transportation, storage, and on-site operations with inside stacking ribs and an easy-to-handle design that allows waiting staff to serve multiple portions simultaneously. In addition, bowls and lids can be used interchangeably, and the lids double as plates, offering maximum flexibility.

Manufactured using high-quality polypropylene (PP), the bowls are safe for food contact and easy to recycle. Their sturdy construction provides the durability required to endure an optimal number of wash cycles in an industrial dishwasher, allowing for easy cleaning and high hygiene standards, while saving, energy, water and time. A matte outside surface structure allows the bowls to resist scratches, and a hygienic smooth inside surface minimises the risk of bacteria growth.

The tableware range is part of a take-back-infrastructure program that allows customers to bring leftover food or takeaway meals home and later return the bowl and lid to the point of purchase where it is sanitized and returned into circulation. To help with inventory management and tracking of reuse cycles, each bowl offers space for a QR code, barcode, Digimarc, or an RFID chip with a unique code. An RFID chip can also be embedded into each lid.

“The smart design of our Reusable Tableware Range has redefined the way restaurant food is served, enjoyed, and packaged, providing foodservice professionals with practical and efficient choices for all their needs,” concluded Josef Björk.
