Graphic Packaging International is expanding access to its Boardio paperboard canister for nutraceutical brands across North America through Combined Technologies, Inc. (CTI), a co-packing partner based in Indiana. The packaging provides an alternative to conventional rigid plastic bottles and tubs, with barrier options designed to protect products from oxygen and moisture.
The Boardio nutraceutical packaging solution is intended for health and wellness products, including gummies, vitamins, tablets, capsules, softgels and powders. CTI supports customers across North America from its contract packaging facility in Bristol, Indiana, and has 26 years of packaging experience.
Graphic Packaging is working with CTI and other co-packers to improve access to alternatives to conventional plastic packaging as consumer expectations and retailer sustainability goals influence the nutraceutical market.
โThe health and wellness aisle is highly competitive, and many brands are looking for packaging that better reflects their values while helping them stand out,โ said Jerry Thompson, president and owner of CTI. โBy offering Graphic Packagingโs Boardio solution, we can give our customers access to an alternative to rigid plastic that delivers the shelf appeal, product protection, operational efficiency and economics they need.โ
Paperboard Canister Offers Customisation and Barrier Options
CTI offers Boardio in different sizes and barrier levels, including high-barrier configurations for products requiring enhanced protection. The format is designed for dry and sensitive applications such as supplements, vitamins, powders and gummies.
The canister provides 360-degree printing for product branding without requiring a separate label. This gives brands additional space to communicate product benefits, usage information and other details directly on the packaging.
Boardio can reduce plastic use by more than 90% compared with rigid plastic cans, depending on the final packaging configuration. Its structure is also designed to support handling, stacking, opening and reclosing.
Graphic Packaging said the solution offers a competitive cost profile, with many customer projects showing savings compared with traditional plastic tubs or bottles.
โAt Graphic Packaging, our goal is to replace existing packaging with something better, more circular, more functional and more convenient,โ said Carlos Carrillo, vice president of global innovation at Graphic Packaging International. โBoardio delivers on all three, proving that brans no longer have to compromise. They can have it all in one smart, standout pack.โ
โAnd by working with co-packing partners like CTI, weโre making it easier for brands to bring that innovation to market,โ Carrillo continued.
Co-Packing Partnership Supports Market Access
Through the partnership, CTI provides co-packing capabilities while Graphic Packaging supplies the Boardio packaging solution. The arrangement allows nutraceutical and health and wellness brands in North America to explore the paperboard format without requiring additional capital outlay for packaging equipment.
The Boardio nutraceutical packaging offering combines paperboard construction, tailored barrier options and integrated printing for brands seeking alternatives to rigid plastic containers.
