Sabert Corporation Europe has expanded the availability of its latest food packaging material, PULPUltra™, across Europe including the UK and Ireland. The wider rollout follows earlier introductions in Ireland and France, where the material was used for children’s meal formats and professional foodservice ranges.
“Over a decade ago, Sabert was the first to bring quality, functional bagasse pulp packaging solutions to the European market,” says Alex Noake, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Sabert Europe. “Now, we are pioneering PULPUltra™, a game changing next-generation, no-intentionally-added-PFAS formulation that meets both legislative standards and customers’ expectations for superior strength and heat resistance.”
Sabert PULPUltra packaging is designed for fresh, ready-to-eat, and hot food applications where strength, temperature resistance, and grease performance are critical. The material is made from more than 95% bagasse fibres and incorporate a thin barrier spray coating below 5%. According to the company, this construction delivers strong oil and grease resistance in direct food contact and is intended to outperform existing pulp and laminated alternatives.
The packaging can be used across frozen and hot food applications and is compatible with microwaves, conventional ovens, and high-speed cooking equipment such as MerryChef systems. It also supports common sealing methods, including single PET sealing and multi-welding, allowing use across different production and foodservice environments.
From a compliance and sustainability standpoint, the material is recyclable under the UK’s Recycling Assessment Methodology, compliant with the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, and certified as TÜV OK Compost Industrial. Sabert said home compostable certification is planned. The development is positioned to help customers prepare for upcoming EU restrictions on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in food packaging.
The company said food safety testing is carried out across its pulp portfolio to ensure alignment with both current and future regulatory thresholds. Sabert added that the launch reflects a broader shift across its pulp range toward next-generation materials that balance regulatory readiness with performance.
At launch, the product received a National Silver award in the Paper & Packaging category at the Green Apple Awards. Sabert said the recognition supports its strategy of continuing to invest in material innovation as demand grows for compliant, high-performance food packaging solutions built around Sabert PULPUltra packaging.
