The Barcelona Packaging Hub is emphasising the importance of young talent as a key driver in the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) within the packaging industry, a sector currently undergoing a profound transformation driven by automation, digitalisation and sustainability.

The packaging industry is experiencing a period of rapid change. Automation, digital technologies and sustainable innovation are redefining industrial processes, and AI is emerging as a strategic tool to enhance efficiency, improve quality and anticipate market needs.

However, the real value of artificial intelligence lies in the people who apply it. Young professionals bring a digital mindset, openness to innovation and a focus on continuous improvement, integrating technology into industrial culture and giving a human dimension to technological progress.

The Hub also underscores that continuous training and intergenerational knowledge transfer are essential to unlock the full potential of AI while preserving the technical expertise and industrial rigour that characterise the packaging sector.

This commitment to talent development is reflected in the real examples of member companies such as Mengibar and United Barcode Systems, which encourage internal growth and provide tangible opportunities for professional progression.

Jaime Urbano at Mengibar advanced from Mechanical Designer to Engineering Director, while Juan Antonio Garrido at United Barcode Systems began as an intern and now holds a key position in the electro-programming area.

The Barcelona Packaging Hub continues to strengthen its role as a collaborative ecosystem that connects companies, technology partners and knowledge centres. Through joint projects, technical workshops and networking activities, it accelerates the adoption of advanced technologies such as AI and reinforces the link between talent, technology and industrial competitiveness.

The Hub reaffirms its commitment to innovation and industry competitiveness, promoting a forward-looking model in which young talent and artificial intelligence work together to shape the future of packaging.
