Tiptree, the preserves and spreads brand owned by Wilkin & Sons, has transitioned to Amcor’s RecyClass-certified collation shrink film and Bontite Sustane stretch wrap, both incorporating 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, as part of its preparation for upcoming changes to the UK Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT).

Partnership Positioned Around Compliance and Performance

Global packaging company Amcor has partnered with Tiptree to supply certified 30% PCR films for the brand’s shrink film and pallet stretch wrap requirements. The transition is designed to help Tiptree navigate significant legislative changes while maintaining logistics packaging performance across its operations.

The move carries particular relevance ahead of the April 2027 deadline, when post-industrial recycled (PIR) content will no longer count toward the 30% minimum recycled plastic threshold under the UK PPT framework. From that point forward, only post-consumer recycled content will qualify. Tiptree’s decision to adopt Amcor PCR films places the brand ahead of this compliance curve.

Independent Certification at the Core

Both the collation shrink film and the Bontite Sustane stretch wrap are produced at Amcor’s UK manufacturing sites located in Leominster and Bromborough. Each film carries RecyClass Recycled Plastics Traceability Certification (EN15343), providing independent verification of the PCR plastic content incorporated into each product.

This certification confirms that recycled materials used in production are fully traceable through controlled processes aligned with recognized European standards โ€” an important consideration for brands seeking accurate and defensible sustainability reporting.

Manuel Martinez, packaging buyer at Wilkin & Sons, explained the rationale behind the transition: “Our relationship with Amcor is collaborative, so faced with upcoming PPT changes it was natural to lean on Amcor’s knowledge and expertise. We’ve been incorporating recycled content into our packaging for some time and having that content independently verified via RecyClass, with certification, gives us confidence in the traceability of the material. Just as important, we have maintained the packaging performance and the level of operational efficiency that our business depends on.”

Delivering Performance Without Compromise

Incorporating PCR content into films used for shrink and stretch applications presents technical challenges. Amcor’s approach has focused on ensuring that the inclusion of recycled material does not compromise the strength, consistency, or operational reliability that customers require.

Gabrielle Ditsch, Sales Director at Amcor, commented on the long-standing collaboration: “We’ve worked with Tiptree for many years. We’re always looking at ways we can help customers increase the use of recycled content in their packaging without compromising on performance. Incorporating PCR into shrink and stretch films can be technically challenging, which is why our focus has been on delivering solutions that maintain the strength, consistency and efficiency customers expect.”

The films are designed to support operational efficiency, load stability, and packaging performance requirements while also contributing to total cost of ownership objectives โ€” ensuring that sustainability gains do not come at the expense of commercial viability.

Traceability and Verification Increasingly Central to Procurement

As legislative change continues to reshape the packaging supply chain, businesses across sectors are reassessing their material choices. Amcor’s UK manufacturing footprint, which includes multiple certified production sites, is backed by robust traceability systems and expertise spanning material science, recycling technology, and regulatory alignment.

Gabrielle Ditsch expanded on the evolving expectations from brand owners: “Customers are increasingly looking beyond recycled content percentages alone and asking where that material comes from, how it is verified and how it performs in practice. That’s why certification, traceability and product performance all matter. By combining independently certified PCR content with high-performing film technologies, we can help customers meet evolving requirements while supporting packaging efficiency, product protection and total cost of ownership.”

The Tiptree transition underscores a broader shift in how brands are approaching sustainable packaging โ€” with independent certification and verified traceability becoming as critical as the recycled content percentage itself. Amcor PCR films, validated through testing and customer trials, reflect this direction.
