Cascades has launched a fully recycled and recyclable paperboard substrate called Cascades lithoURB, purpose-built for lithographic print applications on corrugated boxes and folding cartons. The new material preserves the visual character of unbleached recycled board while enabling high-quality graphic reproduction, according to a statement issued by the packaging manufacturer.
A Sustainable Alternative to Virgin Fibre Grades
Cascades lithoURB is positioned as a direct alternative to virgin fibre-based packaging grades. It is designed to support circular resource usage without compromising print definition, mechanical strength, or conversion efficiency โ three performance pillars that have historically made it difficult for recycled substrates to compete with conventional materials.
The recycled packaging paperboard targets food processors, beverage manufacturers, agricultural producers, and consumer goods companies. The substrate is especially suited to brands that market products with organic, ethical, or environmental credentials, offering them a packaging solution that visually reinforces those values.
Certifications and Compliance Standards
Packaging manufactured using Cascades lithoURB is eligible for FSC Mix or 100% recycled certification. The substrate also complies with BRCGS food safety standards and carries How2Recycle pre-qualification for recyclability โ credentials that are increasingly important for brands navigating tightening regulatory and consumer expectations around sustainable packaging.
Leadership Perspective on the Launch
Cascades president and CEO Hugues Simon stated: “Cascades lithoURB provides our customers with eco-friendly packaging โ a key factor when choosing products in stores. By meeting market demand for sustainable products, Cascades strives to maintain its position as a leader in sustainability.”
Jean-David Tardif, executive vice-president of Cascades’ packaging sector, added: “This new paper reaffirms our position as a partner of choice by adding a premium paper solution that enables us to create distinctive packaging and helps our customers stand out in the North American market.”
