Digital Pouch Production Workflows Transforming Flexible Packaging

Digital workflows are fundamentally reshaping how pouches and flexible packaging are designed, printed, and finished across production operations. The transition toward short-run pouch production, accelerated prototyping capabilities, and on-demand manufacturing enabled by advanced digital presses and automated finishing systems is establishing new operational paradigms. Converters increasingly leverage digital processes to support rapid personalization, SKU diversification, and accelerated seasonal launches while simultaneously reducing waste, minimizing inventory and enabling business models previously impossible within conventional production constraints.

Anti-Counterfeit Label Technologies Strengthening Brand Protection

Counterfeit risks are escalating across premium and regulated products, creating urgent need for sophisticated brand protection mechanisms. Advanced anti-counterfeit label technologies incorporating security inks, holographic elements, tamper-evident materials and digital verification codes are becoming essential components of modern packaging strategies. These integrated security features seamlessly incorporate into production workflows while delivering measurable protection against product diversion, brand degradation and consumer harm - critical functions for safeguarding brand equity and maintaining consumer trust in an increasingly complex global marketplace.

RFID-Enabled Smart Labels Driving Next-Generation Supply Chain Transparency

RFID adoption is accelerating across packaging applications, offering granular visibility from manufacturing through retail distribution channels. Advanced radio frequency identification technology integrated into smart labels improves tracking accuracy, automates inventory management, and strengthens product authentication capabilities. These emerging applications in perishables, pharmaceuticals, and logistics are delivering measurable improvements in supply chain safety, operational efficiency, and consumer protection while establishing new standards for transparency across global distribution networks.

Lubrication technology firm Mobil, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil, has launched 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic pails in India as part of its sustainability efforts.

According to the US-based firm, the pails aim to help customers decrease waste, turn waste into value and advance sustainability goals.

The 50% PCR pails are said to be the first pails packing for lubricating oils in India. The PCR pails promote the use of recycled plastic, which contributes to a decrease in plastic waste and promotes sustainable development.

ExxonMobil Lubricants chief executive officer Vipin Rana said: “Mobil can help create value by advancing customers’ mobility, productivity, and sustainability ambitions.

“Our initiative to transition to 50% post-consumer recycled plastic pails is just one example of how we are advancing our customers’ sustainability ambitions.

“We understand the ever-changing needs of our customers and stakeholders and are committed to operating our business in an accountable and sustainable manner, supplying feature products by minimizing the environmental impacts, and supporting the communities in which we operate.”

ExxonMobil is committed to diverting waste in lubricant facilities, claiming to divert more than 90% of lubricant operations waste from landfills into new productive uses each year.

The company aims to increase its production of certified circular plastics to meet growing demand worldwide.

It has received the Underwriters Laboratories Zero Waste to Landfill, Silver Validation for all Mobil products manufactured at its lubricant facilities.

In December last year, ExxonMobil began production in one of the largest advanced recycling facilities in North America.

Located at an integrated manufacturing complex in Baytown, Texas, the facility breaks down hard-to-recycle plastics and converts them into raw materials for new products.

ExxonMobil said that the recycling plant can process more than 80 million pounds of plastic trash annually, promoting a circular economy for post-use plastics and assisting in the diversion of plastic waste.

Mobil’s range of products and solutions help businesses, communities and individuals make more efficient and sustainable decisions.

Mobil-branded offerings help customers extend oil and equipment life, improve energy efficiency and fuel economy, deliver performance and do more with less by making the most of valuable resources.
