Amcor has obtained UN certification for its 5.5 liter and 5.8 liter industrial containers produced at its Pamplona, Spain facility. The certified containers incorporate 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, marking an important step in combining safety compliance with recycled material use in industrial packaging.
UN approved packaging is designed to prevent spills and exposure, ensuring protection for people, property and the environment. With this certification, the containers provide a secure option for storing and transporting solid and powdered hazardous goods across sectors such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical and automotive. At the same time, the containers help manufacturers pursue sustainability objectives. Amcor expects particularly strong market demand from applications involving swimming pool chemicals and treatments.
The availability of containers with 50% PCR content also supports companies in responding to rising expectations for more sustainable packaging solutions. In addition, it enables businesses to align with current and forthcoming EU and national packaging legislation focused on recycled material usage. Amcor’s Pamplona plant holds RecyClass certification, similar to the company’s facilities in Besançon and La Genête, France, and Lubien, Poland. This certification allows Amcor to provide RecyClass labelling for non-food packaging, validating recyclability claims and confirming the presence of recycled materials for customers.
“This latest UN certification is an important development, which we believe will benefit many businesses throughout Europe,” said Ignacio Igea, sales director industrial, Spain, Portugal & Italy for Amcor Rigid Packaging Solutions International. “While companies naturally wish to adopt more sustainable packaging solutions, it is equally important to maintain a container’s overall performance, and this is especially critical for hazardous goods. Our UN containers with PCR content continue to offer optimal security and reliability, meeting the strict demands of the UN approval procedures.”
Amcor’s certified product line includes the 5.5 liter Amcor SuperLift Extra and the 5.8 liter Amcor SuperFlex. Both containers feature a durable design that ensures product protection while improving storage efficiency and reducing noise on filling lines. Their lightweight construction also simplifies handling and transportation. In addition, several decoration options are available to support branding. The SuperFlex container can also be equipped with a child proof lid designed to prevent opening by children under 51 months while remaining accessible for adults, including seniors.
