US-based flexible packaging firm ProAmpac has partnered with the packaging engineering department of Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart (Stuttgart Media University) in Germany to develop coated paper technologies.

Under the partnership, ProAmpac and Stuttgart Media will work together to develop kerbside-recyclable, high-performance technologies for coated paper.

According to ProAmpac, the collaboration will help expand the applications of its sustainable fibre-based product portfolio by offering customers high-performance recyclable paper technologies.

ProAmpac Global Product Development and Innovation SVP Hesam Tabatabaei said: “This partnership, combined with our other global material and food science university partnerships, will expand the applications of our sustainable fibre-based product portfolio by offering very high-performance recyclable paper technologies to our customers.”

The deal combines ProAmpac’s material science expertise and different capabilities on sustainable fibre-based packaging with Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart’s expertise in paper and coating technologies and printing/coater assets.

University’s Packaging Engineering Department professor Michael Herrenbauer said: “We are pleased to partner with ProAmpac to advance novel paper-based sustainable packaging.

“The development of sustainable materials and coatings for packaging is our research focus. It is a great honour for us to collaborate with ProAmpac in this very important field.”

The flexible packaging company, owned by Pritzker Private Capital along with management and co-investors, is already in alliance with the University of Manchester, Rutgers University, the Rochester Institute of Technology, Polytechnique Montréal and Clemson University.

In June this year, ProAmpac announced the addition of a new patent-pending PRO-EVO Recyclable platform to the ProActive Recyclable series of products.
