Mondi and Pacapime Hungary have introduced fruit and vegetable corrugated packaging solutions for the Central and Western European markets. The launch builds on the companies’ established cooperation and leverages their expertise in containerboard and corrugated manufacturing.
The two companies are drawing on high-quality containerboard, technical know-how, and a long-standing working relationship to design packaging intended to reduce food waste, generate value throughout the supply chain, and safeguard fresh produce from field to shelf.
Pacapime Hungary states that it relies on Mondi’s ProVantage SmartKraft Brown containerboard grade to meet these performance requirements. The material features a fully fresh fiber top ply, which ensures high surface integrity and consistent quality. Its strength characteristics are designed to provide dependable burst and tear resistance. In addition, the containerboard’s consistent runnability and processing performance enable efficient production and reliable box functionality.
“High-quality kraftliners are important in fresh produce applications,” says Tom Pissens, managing director at Pacapime Hungary. “The paper must consistently support box performance, as our customers rely on us to deliver quality packaging every time.”
Pacapime Hungary operates a 42,000 square meter corrugated packaging production facility in Mórahalom, with an annual output capacity of up to 180 million square meters. From this site, the company serves customers in Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Serbia, and Western Europe. Its product portfolio includes fresh produce boxes for apples, pears, tomatoes, and bell peppers.
“Business is about people and long-term trust,” says Lynn Pissens, managing director at Pacapime Hungary. “Our collaboration with Mondi provides the stability and technical expertise that allow us to deliver consistent quality and drive innovation together.”
Sustainability remains a central focus for both organizations. Pacapime Hungary reports investments in water treatment systems, solar panels, and transparent certification processes in response to rising customer demand for environmentally responsible solutions.
At the same time, Mondi’s full fiber mix containerboard portfolio supports circular packaging solutions aimed at protecting products while improving material efficiency.
Earlier this year, Mondi, Kelpi, and Guardpack trialled seaweed and paper-based materials for wet wipe packaging.
