Ball Corporation, a global leader in aluminium packaging, has unveiled the first aluminium aerosol cans certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). The launch was carried out in partnership with Brazilian consumer durables firm Soffie and Aerosols company Aeroflex, a pioneering effort at sustainable packaging innovation.
ASI certification ensures that the aluminium used in such cans is tied up with rigid ESG parameters, from extraction to finished product. Having the ASI seal on the packaging provides the consumer with an unambiguous indication that the material used is sustainably sourced.
“These aerosol cans demonstrate how we can work with customers to bring more sustainable packaging options to the market,” said Victoria Marletta, VP Commercial, Personal and Home Care at Ball Corporation.
Soffie is among the first in the world to bring ASI-certified aerosol packaging to shelves, introducing deodorant lines such as Soffie RUN Live and Soffie RUN Ultra. These items, created with running and athletic communities in consideration, bring functionality together with graphic, bold packaging specifically designed for sports fans. “We are proud to be the first brand to offer ASI-certified aerosol packaging,” said Clynton Cortez, Founder of Soffie. “Ball has supported us in ensuring our products meet both performance and environmental standards.” Aeroflex has also introduced ASI-certified cans across its portfolio of deodorants, hair sprays, dry shampoos, and body sprays. “This launch aligns with our commitment to responsible packaging,” said Geisa Miksza, Executive Director at Aeroflex. “Working with Ball has allowed us to introduce sustainable options to our customers in a practical and reliable way.”
Launch of these ASI-certified aluminium aerosol cans was facilitated by cross-functional teamwork across Ball, its commercial, sustainability, supply chain, and R&D functions. Their efforts ensured seamless integration of ASI-certified aluminium in production and the ASI logo being correctly featured on finished products.
