Mondi has partnered with Ovoko to develop a new automotive packaging solution designed for the shipment of large and fragile car bumpers in the online automotive aftermarket. The companies said the newly developed Corrugated Packaging system reduced unit packaging costs by 42% while improving product protection during e-commerce deliveries. The solution was adapted from Mondi’s existing heavy-duty automotive packaging portfolio and engineered specifically around bumper dimensions to reduce unused internal space and minimize excess material use.
The project was developed through a co-creation process focused on producing packaging that was durable, simple to assemble, and commercially viable for high-volume logistics operations. According to the companies, the first trial shipment was completed and delivered within two weeks under real transportation conditions. Dawid Galusiński, e-commerce sales manager at Mondi Group, stated: “In e-commerce, it is not only the speed of delivery that matters, but the safety of the product throughout the logistics chain. For large and demanding items such as car bumpers, well-designed packaging ensures the product reaches the customer in perfect condition and helps build lasting customer trust.”
Ovoko said its previous packaging approach had become costly and inefficient, while also contributing to product damage during transit. Agnius Skudutis, packaging project manager at Ovoko, noted: “We needed packaging that was simple to assemble, cost-effective, and tough enough to protect everything we ship. Mondi listened to our needs and proposed a solution that allowed us to reduce packaging costs while improving product protection.” Dmitrijus Curkinas, regional sales manager at Mondi Poland, added: “Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one. By adapting a proven packaging concept, we were able to quickly deliver a reliable and cost-efficient corrugated packaging solution that met Ovoko’s needs.”
The collaboration forms part of Mondi’s broader expansion in industrial and e-commerce packaging applications across Europe. Previously, the company partnered with Polish bicycle manufacturer Polana Bikes on a packaging solution for premium bicycles aimed at improving shipping and storage efficiency. Mondi also completed a €95 million investment at its Świecie containerboard mill in Poland, increasing kraftliner production capacity by 55,000 tons to support growing demand for e-commerce and automotive Corrugated Packaging solutions.
