France-based Hébert Group is collaborating with ANDRITZ to scale up its production capabilities utilizing dry-moulded fibre technology. As companies actively seek viable alternatives to plastic packaging, this collaboration marks a practical step toward adopting recyclable systems. Hébert Group specializes in producing custom-moulded solutions for prominent international and European brands across the food, dairy, cosmetics, and reuse markets. By integrating dry-moulded fibre into their operations, the company aims to deliver high-quality custom-moulded products that align with the growing demand for environmentally conscious materials.

The initiative traces back to comprehensive market research conducted in 2020, which led the company to explore natural cellulose materials. Following this evaluation, Hébert Group inaugurated a specialized facility in 2023, completing the related setup and installing its initial production line dedicated to this process. Under a formal service agreement, ANDRITZ is providing essential support during the commissioning of these lines. This partnership ensures the successful completion of a Site Acceptance Test and secures stable operation. Operating under the Herpulp name, the group currently manufactures lids and trays using this advanced method. Furthermore, the organization is reviewing the possibility of producing deep-draw items at a later stage. The industrial process seamlessly combines airlaid forming, non-woven converting, and thermo-forming. According to the companies, integrating airlaid forming, non-woven converting, and thermo-forming significantly reduces energy and water use while actively supporting recyclable systems.

ANDRITZ has stated that achieving cost-effective production relies heavily on sourcing suitable, low-cost raw materials like natural cellulose, paired with extensive experience in pressing and moulding for larger-scale manufacturing. To support wider use of this technology, ANDRITZ has invested in an Airlaid technical centre located in Grenoble, France. Their dedicated service model aims to help manufacturers move from pilot testing to full-scale commercial lines while maintaining confidentiality. Reflecting on the strategic direction, Hébert Group chief commercial officer Julien Hébert said: “We listen closely to our customers to create products that are chosen by the top names in the food and cosmetics industries. In the course of these discussions, we have gained a deeper understanding of their expectations regarding sustainable development. “This approach has naturally driven us to diversify our technologies, creating new opportunities and strengthening our position as a pioneer in other raw materials and environmentally friendly processes.”
