The Plastic Action Dashboard offers access to orders, metrics, marketing and compliance information in one place. This aims to increase visibility as a growing number of companies look to reduce their plastic footprint by decreasing plastic usage, incorporating recycled plastics and offsetting their footprint with plastic credits.

Oceanworks’ brand partners will have access to the dashboard to view order details, advanced impact metrics, and resources down to order-level detail. Additionally, filters and dynamic calculations allow organisations to organise their programme data for the purposes of reporting and marketing campaigns.

Blockchain technology is used to document the chain of custody and reduce supply chain risk. The Plastic Action Dashboard allows Oceanworks brand partners to visualise blockchain informational maps for tracking material movement, as well as impact metrics.

Oceanworks CEO Vanessa Coleman commented: “Today, transparency is more important than ever, as consumers want to know where their products originate and understand the impact of their purchase decisions. We are thrilled to give brands access to the stories of their plastic reduction initiatives.”

As well as sustainable plastic initiatives happening on the level of companies, broader institutions and governments are also working against plastic pollution. Earlier this week, the UK government and 52 members of the High Ambition Coalition signed a ministerial statement to end plastic pollution by 2040.

However, solving the plastic pollution crisis is not as simple as equating circularity with sustainability. A new paper published today in the Journal of Waste Management highlights that current actions aiming at achieving circularity can be overly focused on phoney effects and contribute to cementing policy and infrastructure that fail to pave the way towards true sustainability.

GlobalData’s thematic analysis finds that to achieve a successful circular plastic economy in the long run, various stakeholders need to collaborate across various value chains.
