On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Barcelona Packaging Hub organized a special webinar to reflect on the presence, challenges, and opportunities for women in the packaging industry.
The event, held at the United Barcode Systems (UBS) facilities, brought together prominent professionals from the sector, who shared their experiences and perspectives on the industry’s evolution towards a more diverse and inclusive environment.
Diversity of Women and Perspectives on the Future of Packaging
The speakers addressed essential topics such as inclusion in technical roles, workplace equity, and the importance of diversity in the sector’s growth.
Sara de Mier, HR Manager at UBS, highlighted the difficulty in finding female talent for technical positions and emphasized the importance of overcoming barriers to facilitate their inclusion. Esther Las, HR Director at Mengíbar, and Judit Bueno, COO and Senior Transformation Advisor at UBS, discussed the progress made in inclusion and diversity but agreed that there is still work to be done.
Mariona Pascual, Marketing Manager at INVpack, pointed out the resistance to change in some sectors, while Clara Dan, After Sales Coordinator at Movitec, shared the challenges women face in after-sales management and the importance of strengthening confidence in their abilities.
Opportunities and Advancements in the Sector
The speakers highlighted the many opportunities available to women in the packaging industry, especially as companies adopt more inclusive policies.
Marta Palau, National Sales Director at UBS, shared her experience after 25 years in the sector, emphasizing the achievement of consolidating an equitable sales department where men and women work on equal terms. In this same vein, Tania Buchkivska, SAT Coordinator at Movitec, emphasized the importance of collaboration among women to strengthen their position in the industry.
Fiorella Alcorta, Project Manager at INVpack, offered an inspiring message for young women interested in technical careers: “Choose what you’re passionate about, move forward with determination, and don’t let anything or anyone stop you.”
Her intervention reinforced the importance of perseverance and self-confidence, key elements for professional growth and female leadership in the sector.
