Stora Enso has expanded its portfolio of premium packaging offerings with Ensovelvet, a new uncoated solid bleached sulfate (SBS) board with a soft, velvet-like finish on each side. The board is ideally suited for luxury end uses such as cosmetics, fragrances, and other luxury consumer products.

Engineered to meet the growing demand for natural and sustainable packaging solutions, Ensovelvet begins with a naturally uncoated surface that is very stiff and reliable in folding behavior. Its luminous, high-end finish enhances the sensory appeal of the product while delivering excellent printability. It is particularly well-suited for use in applications where touch quality and visual appeal are of prime importance, including luxury personal care and fragrance packaging.

Ensovelvet enhances Stora Enso’s current Ensocoat board to create a broad SBS carton range that has coated and uncoated markets under its umbrella. Both the boards are designed to be completely recyclable, in line with the shift towards circular packaging in the industry. The uncoated design of Ensovelvet also means lower material requirements throughout manufacturing, reducing its carbon footprint without a sacrifice in the premium performance required for luxury packaging material.

For brand owners’ increasing demand for sustainable but premium packaging, Ensovelvet presents a unique option for producing products showcasing natural textures and clean looks. Tomas Larsson, Head of Product Line FBB, SBS, Liner, and Book Paper, said: “Luxury packaging is about more than protection. It’s about creating an impression. Ensovelvet gives brand owners a material with a distinctive, natural surface that helps their products stand out in a crowded marketplace. By adding it alongside Ensocoat, we now offer a complete SBS range that meets today’s design trends and tomorrow’s performance demands.”
