France-based cosmetics company L’Oréal has announced that all products under its Garnier brand will be manufactured with either recyclable, degradable or reusable plastic by 2025.

This announcement comes as a part of Garnier’s Green Beauty Initiative which focuses on a holistic approach to sustainability. According to the initiative, the brand will stop using virgin plastics in all its packages and switch to environment-friendly alternatives by 2025.

Adrien Koskas, global president of Garnier, said, “Green Beauty will transform the way we do business. Developed with the help of our partners, experts and consumers, this initiative highlights our ambitions in this field supported by realistic and tangible goals. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and introducing innovations to enable a sustainable future. It will take time, but this initiative will transform Garnier, and hopefully the cosmetics industry as a whole.”

The brand also claimed that it will have 100% CO2 neutral plants by 2025 as the emissions at its plants have already reduced by 72%. Besides this, Garnier will also support 800 communities worldwide under its solidarity sourcing programme and it also aims to educate consumers on topics such as recycling through its digital channels.

To support the fight against plastic pollution, the brand has teamed up globally with two NGOs — Ocean Conservancy (environmental conservancy) and Plastics for Change.

Also, Garnier will be the first brand to implement new product labelling and information on their impact on the environment and society as part of the global L’Oréal for the Future programme.

The launch of this Green Beauty initiative will also be supported by the launch of a series of new Garnier products.
