Kenvue and Greyparrot have entered a global partnership to strengthen circularity across Kenvueโ€™s packaging. The collaboration centers on AI packaging recyclability, deploying Greyparrotโ€™s Deepnest to replace designโ€‘forโ€‘recycling assumptions with evidence from real recycling environments.

The companies said tightening requirements, including the EUโ€™s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), underscore the operational and cost significance of proven recyclability.

The project will help Kenvue evaluate how its packaging performs in commercial sorting plants. As part of the work, Kenvue will collect data on sortation and processability by tracking how products move through recycling facilities in the UK and the US. These insights will help assess AI packaging recyclability across Kenvueโ€™s portfolio.

The partnership will also examine potential packaging changes by identifying how individual elements, such as pumps and labels, affect detection and recovery rates. It will further support โ€œWhatโ€‘Ifโ€ analysis to estimate the financial effects of EPRโ€‘linked design adjustments such as altering translucency or selecting different materials before physical prototypes are produced.

The agreement is part of work on waste data for circular economy systems. Kenvue joins other companies that use Greyparrotโ€™s technology, including Lโ€™Orรฉal Groupe, Unilever and McDonaldโ€™s.

โ€œCircular packaging is no longer an aspiration; it is fast becoming the standard. Weโ€™re proud to partner with Kenvue to turn design intent into measurable impact, helping set a new benchmark for how the industry designs, measures and delivers circularity,โ€ said Greyparrot coโ€‘founder Ambarish Mitra.

โ€œOur partnership with Greyparrot and the integration of Deepnest represents a fundamental shift in how we approach sustainable packaging. AI-driven waste intelligence allows us to go beyond simple tracking and into advanced scenario modelling, helping us identify the most impactful design changes and implement innovative solutions across our global portfolio faster and more cost-effectively than ever before,โ€ said David Lickstein, Kenvueโ€™s global head of packaging innovation, sustainability, and experience.
