Koehler Groupโs research division, Koehler Innovation and Technology, has installed a Rovema BVC 260 vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) machine at its site in Oberkirch, Germany, to evaluate the performance of recyclable paper packaging under real-world production conditions. The installation serves as a critical expansion of the companyโs existing pilot system, which currently includes a specialized test coating machine. By integrating industrial-scale packaging equipment into its research infrastructure, Koehler aims to produce and test paper-based solutions at a pilot scale before they are adopted for large-scale manufacturing. This strategic investment is designed to assess the machinability of new barrier papers, effectively shortening development cycles and mitigating the financial and technical risks associated with commercial product launches.
The new VFFS machine allows the research team to simulate the precise mechanical stresses that materials undergo during high-speed packaging processes.
