Italian cosmetic packaging maker Lumson has introduced a new metal-free pump called FREE. This is the company’s latest step in developing its product range. The company, which has been active in the sector for fifty years, designs and produces its packaging solutions entirely in-house. This includes both the conceptual phase and final manufacturing, drawing on its extensive experience and advanced engineering capabilities.

Over the past two decades, Lumson has concentrated on enhancing its airless and dispensing systems, which are central to its technology portfolio. The company said FREE is designed to combine technical performance with environmental considerations. The pump is constructed from a polymer material initially developed for aerospace and medical applications. Lumson invested five years developing and transforming this polymer for cosmetic packaging in the hopes of creating a solution that is strong, lightweight, flexible, and able to resist mechanical, thermal, and chemical stresses.

The metal-free pump comes in atmospheric and airless configurations and has a 24/410 neck. According to Lumson, the material used in FREE ensures consistent performance over time, offering accuracy comparable to metal-spring pumps, along with smooth and reliable operation.

From an environmental perspective, FREE has earned RecyClass certification, showing it works with polypropylene (PP) recycling processes. The certification includes a TECHNOLOGY APPROVAL for full compatibility with the PP recycling chain and a COMPATIBILITY LETTER – CLASS A for both airless and atmospheric versions. Lumson’s move reflects the broader industry trend of creating packaging that can be recycled effectively without losing performance.

The development also shows that sustainability and environmental responsibility are now central to how cosmetic dispensing systems are designed and made.
