Domino Printing Sciences (Domino) has broadened its secondary packaging portfolio with the introduction of the Cx150i, positioning the system as a high-resolution piezo inkjet solution tailored for food and beverage manufacturers. The new printer is designed to deliver a more sustainable and cost-effective alternative to conventional labelling methods, with a clear focus on direct-to-box printing. Engineered specifically for porous substrates such as cardboard boxes, the system integrates a non-toxic, non-hazardous vegetable-oil-based ink that supports improved recyclability while lowering the overall chemical footprint of production environments.

A defining aspect of the Cx150i lies in its ability to enable direct-to-box printing, removing the dependency on adhesive labels and associated materials such as silicone-coated backing liners. By eliminating these elements, manufacturers can significantly reduce waste generation and energy consumption typically linked to traditional labelling systems. This approach also streamlines operations by removing the need to handle and manage multiple label inventories, simplifying the supply chain and improving operational efficiency across production lines.

The Cx150i represents a hugely capable direct-to-box printer at an accessible price,” says David Edwards, product manager – piezo inkjet at Domino Printing Sciences. “It offers significant cost-of-ownership savings when compared to labelling solutions and boasts strong environmental credentials: vegetable-oil–based ink, minimal waste, and no factory air.”

Built with space-constrained facilities in mind, the system features a compact design alongside an intuitive interface to support ease of use. Its technical framework delivers reduced total cost of ownership through lower maintenance demands and improved ink efficiency when compared with legacy inkjet technologies and mechanical labelling systems. Integration capabilities allow seamless connectivity with factory MES and ERP systems via Domino Automation, while Domino Cloud provides remote monitoring and enhanced visibility into overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). Additionally, pairing the printer with Domino’s R-Series vision solutions enables automated inspection, supporting quality assurance and minimising errors.

The launch addresses a key requirement among SME manufacturers seeking industrial-grade reliability and high-resolution coding for barcodes and traceability, without the capital intensity typically associated with large-scale primary packaging equipment.
