TemperPack®, a pioneer in eco-friendly thermal packaging, launched its Qualified Shipper Program, a service intended to make the transition easier for pharmaceutical manufacturers, life science distributors, specialty pharmacies, and biotech companies looking for alternatives to EPS foam coolers to ship temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals.

The firm highlighted the environmental issue of EPS, further stating that about twelve non-recyclable EPS foam coolers are sent to U.S. landfills per minute from GLP-1 shipments alone. The Qualified Shipper Program replaces EPS with certified home compostable, water-soluble insulation, giving customers an option to cut plastic waste while preserving thermal performance.

“The Qualified Shipper Program removes the friction from making the switch to sustainable packaging,” said Jessica Joyce, Chief Growth Officer for TemperPack. “Pharmacies can now get fully qualified, right-sized thermal shippers that meet their needs — with the confidence that the shipper meets ISTA® performance standards across 2–8°C, 15–25°C, and -20°C temperature ranges year-round.”

Key features of the program include:

  • Complete Qualification Package: It comes with an ISTA® Certified Thermal Transport Lab report, detailed packing instructions, compostable thermal insulation, coolants, and an outer shipping box.
  • By Season, Temperature, & Duration: Units are designed to meet special seasonal and temperature needs, providing consistent thermal control for either 36 or 48 hours.
  • Compostable Insulation: The GreenCell Foam™ material can be home or industrially composted, or dissolved in water and rinsed away, reducing the disposal burden on patients.

According to TemperPack, the Qualified Shipper Program allows life science companies to respond more quickly to patient expectations for sustainable packaging while ensuring regulatory compliance, operational simplicity, and cost efficiency.
