Yangi has unveiled the first production-ready dry-formed fiber tray for meat, fish, deli, and ready meals, marking a significant development in fiber-based food packaging. The launch is enabled by Cellera, the company’s turnkey dry forming technology, which Yangi positions as a fully integrated industrial platform designed for high-volume manufacturing.

According to the company, Cellera delivers cost-competitive output at scale with repeatable precision. The platform is engineered to provide the operational stability that packaging producers and converters require as they expand production capacity. By combining premium surface quality with predictable performance and greater design flexibility, the new production-ready fiber tray is intended to address longstanding limitations associated with wet-molded fiber formats.

Performance & Design: Built for Real Food & Real Brands

Developed to meet the functional demands of a wide range of food applications, the production-ready fiber tray has been tested for consumer use in chilled, frozen, microwave, and oven environments. Under these conditions, it maintains its structural integrity, strength, and dimensional stability during typical handling. The tray also offers sealing capabilities and is compatible with Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), supporting shelf-life requirements across protein and ready-meal categories.

The product is manufactured from renewable, responsibly sourced virgin fibers and features a PFAS-free composition. A functional laminate is selectively applied for applications that require enhanced performance characteristics. Recyclability depends on the laminate selected, with certain structures designed to align with existing paper recycling systems and facilitate fiber recovery after use. Integrated fiber chemistry contributes to achieving the required outer surface properties.

Available in both bleached and unbleached formats, the tray can be adapted in size to suit specific packaging requirements. It supports debossing and high-resolution digital printing across the entire surface — including the sides — and is supplied with a label-ready finish.

Tray E“The tray can be used as designed or customized to meet specific product, barrier, and design requirements,” says Hanna Rudel, Chief Commercial Officer at Yangi. “It gives brands and converters the flexibility to adopt fiber-based packaging that is intentional, premium, and high-performing without compromising on design, functionality, or cost.”

Production is carried out using Cellera , Yangi’s proprietary dry forming platform. The system combines precision dual-drum airlaid formation, in-line custom pad formation, and precision transfer technology to maximize fiber control and optimize material use in every unit produced. This approach enables smooth, uniform surfaces that were previously difficult to achieve with renewable fibers.

By eliminating the wet stage associated with traditional pulp molding, Cellera simplifies the manufacturing process and reduces operational complexity. The platform supports industrial-scale dry forming with rapid 4–6 second cycle times. As a result, manufacturers can achieve predictable, high-volume output with tighter tolerances, consistent quality, and lower energy and water consumption.

“With renewable materials, a PFAS-free composition, ~ 80% lower CO₂ impact compared to plastic alternatives, and scalable industrial reliability, Yangi’s dry-formed tray represents more than just a product launch,” says Anna Altner, Founder at Yangi. “For packaging producers and brands seeking alternatives to wet-molded fiber, it signals the arrival of dry forming as the new benchmark in fiber-based packaging,” she concludes.
