Sweet-packed food company Ferrero has announced a significant increase in its sustainable packaging initiatives for the 2022/23 financial year (FY22/23), with 90.7% of its packaging now reportedly recyclable, reusable or compostable.

This is an improvement on the 88.5% the company reported in the 2021/2022 period. Reginaldo Tavares Da Silva, head of Ferrero Packaging, said: “The work we have done to improve the recyclability of our plastic packaging portfolio and increase recycled content allows us to secure our portfolio today and to ensure business continuity in light of upcoming legislation, such as the US. EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) Accounts in North America.”

To improve the circularity of its products, Ferrero has committed to several initiatives, including designing all packaging to be recyclable, reusable or compostable, and reducing the use of virgin plastic by 10% compared to baseline by 2025 for 2019/20.

In addition, the company wants to increase the use of post-consumer recycled material in its plastic packaging to a target of 12%.

Ferrero collaborates with several partners to ensure the availability of its new recycled material solutions.
