Two new inspection machines from Wipotec – one precision checkweighing unit for potentially explosive environments and one X-ray enabled inspection unit for food and beverage containers – will make their debut at Pack Expo Las Vegas in September.
The SC-S 5020 X-ray Scanner is designed to detect leaks in filled and sealed glass bottles and jars for food and beverage applications. It is reportedly capable of identifying micro-leaks as small as 0.1mm and providing foreign body detection, checking fill levels, and confirming the proper closure of screw caps and lids.
Claiming to offer throughput rates of up to 60,000 products every hour, the system can handle small and/or slender containers. It is designed for easy integration into filling lines without an additional transport route.
It also features ejectors to sort faulty products into lockable rejection bins of convey them upright into a sort lane. A 15” colour touchscreen displays real-time inspection statistics and allows operators to interact with a user-friendly interface.
Additionally, the HC-A-EX Checkweigher is designed for manufacturing environments that feature a mix of gases or flammable substances that pose a moderate risk of explosion incidents. It aims for precision in its checkweighing process, and features such as its nickel-coated conveyor belts to lower adverse conductivity reportedly meet requirements from the safeguarding EU Directive ATEX.
The modular HC-A-EX specialises in cans and other aerosol containers and is thought to handle over 300 items every minute. Even in situations where a container’s weight is extremely light, Wipotec’s precision Electro-Magnetic Force Restoration (EMFR) technology facilitates checkweighing – apparently enabling short settling times for fast, accurate, and repeatable weighing results.
A range of options are also available, including lateral side grip conveyors and the separation of rotary star wheels, alongside several injection and control technology features.
Last year, Ishida revealed an X-ray inspection system combining sensor and image processing technology for small and low-density foreign bodies inside a pack; and WeighPack’s high-precision checkweighing machine is set to weigh products like pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, precious metals, and cannabis pre-rolls – offering a reported accuracy of 0.01g.
