ClearBags announced that it would be participating at the Sweets and Snacks Expo in Chicago, US to address the growing need for food businesses to comply with strict food safety regulations and to protect their products from contamination and the packaging available.

ClearBags say that many of its packaging options and materials are safe for food contact and that each of its packaging lines are designed to meet the unique needs of each product. ClearBags say its packaging is designed to provide a safe and secure environment to transport food products.

The US-headquartered company say that food-safe packaging includes bags, stand-up zipper pouches and boxes that are all made from high-quality, food-grade materials that meet the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations.

On 20 March Packaging Gateway reported that Clearbags had expanded its sustainable packaging options with new product lines. The US company introduced stand-up pouches made from a proprietary blend of materials that are food safe and heat-sealable.

Clearbags also launched the home-compostable child-resistant bags, which are aimed at the pharmaceutical market.

The move by the company to push recyclable and compostable packaging options falls in line with recent data from Packaging Gateway’s parent company GloblaData, that showed 50% of global consumers consider it essential to know where a product’s packaging can be recycled.

At a recent webinar hosted by GlobalData, ‘The top trends in packaging 2023’, analysts also stated that packaging for foods and beverages accounts for 87% of the market and 63% of overall packaging on the market share is held by flexible and rigid plastics.

GlobalData head of global packaging services, Dominic Cakebread said: “It’s not that easy to change from plastics overnight to substitute with other materials and the industry has adapted to using more recycled content and the resistance to move away from plastics has been quite strong.”
