Flexible packaging leader ProAmpac announced a five-year extension of its Research and Development alliance with Polytechnique Montréal. The partnership will continue funding the Sustainable, Safe and Smart Polymer Flexible Packaging program operated by the university’s Department of Chemical Engineering, chaired by Prof. Abdellah Ajji.
The agreement extends a 10-year collaboration between the University and ProAmpac and includes a $1-million Alliance Grant from Canada’s Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC); in addition to funds from the PRIMA Quebec Advanced Materials Research and Innovation Hub; Polytechnique Montréal, and ProAmpac.
The research will continue to provide ProAmpac world-class analytical and research support of its product development and support activities. Some of the focus areas the University and ProAmpac are working on include smart packaging technology for food safety and sustainability, including biobased and compostable/biodegradable materials.
According to Hesam Tabatabaei, Vice President of Product Development and Innovation, “This valuable partnership with Polytechnique Montréal provides excellent research opportunities for both food safety and sustainability to promote the next generation of packaging.”
ProAmpac will have access to materials developed, assistance from research graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and research associates, as well as biology lab testing facilities and materials dedicated to advancing the university’s Sustainable, Safe and Smart Polymer Flexible Packaging program.
ProAmpac has manufacturing facilities in Terrebonne and Richmond, Quebec.
