Dairy company Lee Strand is using Tetra Pak’s 1l Tetra Rex Plant-based packaging for its fresh milk product. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified packaging is produced completely from paperboard and the plastic from Bonsucro certified sugarcane.

Tetra Rex Plant-based packaging is also certified to be carbon neutral in line with the Carbon Trust’s PAS 2060 standard. The packaging is labelled as the first ‘carbon neutral’ carton in Ireland. According to Tetra Pak, it is a fully renewable beverage carton.

County Kerry-based Lee Strand managing director John O’Sullivan said: “We’re proud to expand our product portfolio and support our customers as they look to make more sustainable choices.

“Tetra Pak’s approach to packaging aligns with our environmental outlook and we look forward to continuing this partnership with the addition of the 1L Tetra Rex Plant-based product.”

Tetra Pak’s has also launched its Carbon Neutral programme in Europe, with the aim of eliminating carbon impact from the carton’s lifecycle.

Tetra Pak Europe & Central Asia marketing cluster leader Lars Bengtsson said: “This programme highlights our continued commitment to building a low carbon and climate neutral circular economy. We recognise the importance of helping our customers respond to consumer needs and reinforce their commitment to protecting the environment.”

The company commits to hold its 2020 impact across its value chain at 2010 levels
