Nordic Cold Chain Solutions has added a new testing chamber to develop its packaging research and product development capacities.

The chamber is equipped with precise temperature control and enables the testing of packaging solutions in a controlled environment to simulate real-world conditions. The equipment also increases throughput of shipper development and tests for temperature maintenance.

The company aims to leverage the testing chamberโ€™s capabilities to develop customised packaging solutions that meet the needs of key industries including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and food and beverage.

Nordic Chain Solutions CEO Andy Bolton commented: โ€œWe will continue to strategically add to our existing product testing technologies and lab capabilities to ensure that our packaging solutions consistently deliver quality and reliability.โ€

Temperature-controlled packaging is an global area of rapid innovation and wide application, from condiments brand Hellmannโ€™s developing a smart temperature jar to protect refrigerated food, to Sonoco launching recyclable temperature-controlled packaging for life science companies.

Additionally, sensors within connected packaging are becoming increasingly popular to monitor the temperature and condition of packsโ€™ contents and minimise heat transfer. These can be applied to labels as well as containers.

Such innovations were driven by the pandemic as governments needed temperature-controlled packaging solutions to transport medical supplies to healthcare facilities.
