The Saica Group has gone on to expand its packaging recovery network in Spain due to its acquisition of FCC Ambito, the paper and corrugated board recovery business, and also
a subsidiary of FCC Enviro, thereby adding Madrid as well as the north and west regions of Spain to its portfolio.
It is well to be noted that the transaction was carried out by the waste and environmental services division of the company – Saica Natur.
Susana Alejandro, the President and CEO of the Saica Group, says that the expansion of packaging recovery network with this acquisition is indeed a strategic step that goes on to consolidate their presence in Iberia, and they are very much delighted to extend a warm welcome to one and all at FCC Ambito, along with the new customers as well as partners who are joining the Saica Group.
Alejandra added that this operation enables them to add to a very well-qualified team having recognized prestige within the sector, making their value proposition more robust for customers within the Iberian Peninsula.
It is worth noting that the acquired business activities consist majorly of paper as well as cardboard recovery along with nonhazardous industrial and also commercial waste. Saica now takes over the operations at facilities of FCC Ambito in Madrid, Valladolid, and Caceres.
Asturias, Leon, and Vizcaya, as well as Toledo in Spain. The facilities, apparently, employ over 150 people.
According to Iñigo Sanz, CEO of FCC Enviro, this transaction is indeed quite satisfactory and also is part of their policy of asset rotation along with optimization in order to maximize the shareholder value and, at the same time, focus on their development plan.
After the acquisition, Saica Natur now operates 47 facilities, 36 of which are located in Spain, and the rest are spread across the countries of France, Portugal, Poland, and also the United Kingdom, and has over 1,700 employees.
It was in late October 2025 that the company first broke ground on its forthcoming corrugated packaging manufacturing facility located in Anderson, Indiana, which was its second corrugated packaging site in the U.S. The facility is all set to begin its operations in Q4 of 2026 and is anticipated to produce over 1.2 million square feet of corrugated packaging per year.
Saica Group went ahead and announced in 2021 its plans to invest around $800 million in the U.S. market, which includes the Anderson facility as well as its packaging plant located in Ohio’s Hamilton.
